About MediaPedia

We believe that trust in news starts with transparency. Our platform sheds light on the bias and perspectives behind each story, helping you navigate diverse viewpoints and stay informed. See where stories stand, and empower yourself with a more complete understanding.

ABOUT US

MediaPedia, a project of American Independent Media, empowers Americans to uncover the truth behind the headlines by using transparency as a tool to reveal media bias. Bias itself is not inherently negative; it’s a human trait, not a partisan one. However, we seek to expose those in the media who attempt to hide their bias, whether overtly or covertly.

With a data-driven analysis of news bias, MediaPedia provides clear insights into the credibility and biases of journalists, media organizations, and content. By making bias transparent on both sides of the political spectrum, MediaPedia exposes the lens through which journalists are covering the most important issues of our time. Our non-partisan approach dismantles hidden agendas and equips users with the tools to navigate today’s complex media landscape with clarity and confidence.

Where Transparency Drives Truth

CORE VALUES
Accountability

Holding media organizations responsible for transparent and honest communication.

Open Discourse

We respect and focus on reviewing and rating journalists and media outlets with diverse perspectives so users can form their own opinions.

Empowerment

Providing tools that give users the ability to make informed media consumption choices.

Transparency

Normalizing bias in media by exposing its existence and positively recognizing those that own their bias openly.

MISSION

MediaPedia exposes the inherent bias in news reporting and addresses the harm caused by its lack of transparency. Through our extensive database of media bias transparency ratings, we help Americans see through hidden agendas and navigate news with clarity and confidence.

METHODOLOGY

Our bias ratings are determined through a rigorous, data-driven process that utilizes automated Natural Language Processing and data analytics to build an accurate, quantifiable assessment of bias in the news - particularly when that bias is contrary to stated intent.MediaPedia is currently designed to rate print and online journalists and outlets with the ability to rate broadcast journalists and outlets coming soon. Here is a brief overview:

1

Bias Rating

Unlike other entities that generalize scores in a top-down approach for an entire media outlet/organization using human research, our algorithm uses AI to analyze every word from the bottom up and all topics included in the article to provide an overall bias rating for readers.

2

Transparency Score (Coming Soon)

Where we see a marked difference between the bias presented from what the author claims or acts and the bias calculated from our bottoms-up analysis, we will highlight it to you as non-transparency.

3

Historical Data

We also track historical patterns of bias and accuracy to provide a long-term view of a journalist’s or outlet's consistency in their reporting. This data helps to highlight trends and shifts in media practices over time.
