MediaPedia, First AI-Powered Platform Measuring Media Bias to Drive Transparency, Launches Beta Model Today
Non-profit group offers Americans first-ever database of establishment reporters, bias scores and rankings
(Chicago, IL) - MediaPedia, a first-ever database of news reporters and their measurable bias scores, launched a beta model today, advancing its mission to empower news consumers to see the bias behind the bylines of legacy news outlets. Using the first AI-driven model to rate the ideological leaning of reporters, MediaPedia intends to be a one-stop shop for information about news media. This non-partisan, data-centered platform aims to dismantle hidden agendas and equips users with tools to navigate today’s complex media landscape with clarity and confidence.
“MediaPedia starts from a simple truth: every journalist has a bias. Bias isn’t inherently bad—it’s part of being human. Yet the establishment media claims to be objective when in fact their bias bleeds into their stories,” said Christine Czernejewski, President and CEO of MediaPedia. “This creates agenda-driven narratives and inaccurate news coverage, which is in part why trust in media is at an all-time low. We aim to change that by driving truth through transparency.”
MediaPedia’s goal is to make its ratings as objective as possible. Unlike other ratings organizations, which classify stories based on panels or polling, MediaPedia uses a proprietary AI model to determine bias. Each story is broken down into eight measurable criteria, such as the number of sources quoted from each side or how the headline was framed.
The overall bias score of an article, ranging from strong left bias to center to strong right bias, is the average score of the eight criteria. The overall bias score of a journalist is the aggregated bias rating for their published content.
Additionally, MediaPedia produces background information on journalists, from where they’ve previously worked to whether they’ve made a political donation. Journalists and the public are encouraged to engage with the platform.
“The media is a vital institution that we all rely on to make everyday decisions from the minute to the mission critical,” said Czernejewski. “Americans want a press they can rely on and trust. That starts with transparency. MediaPedia intends to elevate journalism by putting the news consumers in control and holding media accountable.”
MediaPedia, a non-profit, plans to expand its ratings to include broadcasters and podcasters, as well as provide periodic scorecards of the most biased reporters.
